#118 Black & White Lookalike

I've adored this black & white floral fabric from Schumacher Pyne Hollyhock in Charcoal ever since I saw it in the office space featured in the May/June 2011 issue of Lonny Mag.  But the price tag is steep- $130 a yard, steep.  This type of luxury is so far outside of my price range I could only afford a swatch which doesn't do the pattern justice.  I've been on the lookout for lookalikes...

Saw this lovely print, but who knows where it originates. This can be the downside to pinterest- you see something so lovely, but you can never get to the source.

Then low and behold, in a Facebook Ikea post, there it is.  It has the same feel of the Schumacher pattern! And at $30 for almost 5 yards of super wide (86") fabric, you can't get a better deal. I got a little excited and immediately imagined ripping the seams out of that duvet and turning it into curtains.

Ikea also carries another similar grayscale floral.

I've got an Ikea trip in the works already, time to reserve the zipcar!

#116 Lavender Summer

Lavender seems to be popping up everywhere. Maybe it's the start of the summer bringing along lovely colors with it. This shade feels modern, but not so in your face like some other colors I have a penchant for (hello, neon yellow!). It's a perfect alternative to brights for your  outfit, nails or wall.  I'm sooo tempted to paint a lavender wall now.  I have a sickness and it revolves around wanting to paint everything, all the time.

I hope everyone has a sweet summery weekend!

#95 Winter Blues

Too little sunlight + too much snow + the necessity of slush proof shoes = Blah.  I have to remind myself that spring will eventually be here... and having hot chocolate every evening while snuggling under blankets won't be nearly as satisfying when temps get above freezing.

On the plus side, winter light makes blues pop against snowy backdrops.  The sky looks pretty magical when the sun comes out after a heavy snow.  And jeans don't seem nearly as dreary when they are a medium blue and high-waisted and flared rather than black and skin tight after an extended holiday with a mother that bakes treats everyday.  And my blue sofa greets me in the evenings with the promise of a relaxing night of awesome old movies.  I can wait for spring a little longer...

#80 Places Set

One long table coming up!  This weekend I'm planning on building a dining table.  I found a sweet website, where the writer, Ana White, builds furniture and shares plans that you can build yourself, from the easiest to more advanced.  It gave me the courage to make something useful and not have to spend a million dollars on it.  With a few table building helpers and a tool donor, hopefully it will be a success! Then, whenever you come to visit me, I will have a cute little table set up like so to welcome you...

#77 Summer Sunsets

I'm currently obsessed with sunsets.  Their magic is hard to fully describe with a photograph because the feeling you get of being a minuscule part of the universe when you look into the sky doesn't really come across.  I'm obsessed to a point where I want to try and paint an entire room the colors of the sky at dusk (or maybe start out with one wall).  Sunsets make me happy.

Happy, happy, happy...

#71 Friday Aqua Blues

IT'S FRIDAYYYY!!!!!!!!!!  WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Time to pick paint colors (one of my absolute favorite things in the whole world), buy a "big girl" bed (to replace the twin-sized one) and get ready to move into a new place (finally)!  I feel like jumping on a bed!!! And then go play in a sprinkler outside and eat watermelon and play board games and then make milkshakes and cookies and then jump rope and take a nap...  In other words, I'm so carefree and happy I feel like i'm 7 years old again.

#68 How To Avoid Being Homeless

Easiest answer to that is find an apartment.  Sounds relatively simple right?  Well, not exactly...  The fun part of a new apartment= decorate the apartment!!  Wish I could skip the "finding" portion and move right to the "decorating" portion, but everything comes in its due time.

Inspiration!

#46 Shiny Office

I have a strong propensity for organizing.  I tend to organize spaces within an inch of their life...you can ask any of my roommates or family members.  The weird thing about it is that I actually get joy out of the process of organizing.  Give me a messy closet/pantry/desk, a couple of hours to get the job done, a trip to the Container Store, and I'm a happy camper.  I kinda wish my desk needed a cleansing & makeover right now, so I could go gold with all the accessories...hmmm, I think the gold scissors will def be mine very soon.

Gold alumicolor architectural scale, Kate's Paperie gold-toned scissors, lightning bolt book via  { wit + delight }, gold pencils, gold stapler, to-do list stickies, gold cups to organize all the bits & bobs, & gold striped happy tape

 the perfect desk...
you would need a little gold bottle of windex to go with it though

#42 Yellow Fever

I'm officially obsessed with buttery, vibrant, mustardy, fluorescent, lemony & sunny yellows. They are the cause of instant smiles & one of the best remedies to rainy days. I mean, rain slickers are yellow for a reason! (disclaimer: it might not be this reason, but I like to think so)  My new fluorescent yellow iPhone case makes me smile every time I pull it out of my pocket, and it's almost time to whip out the fluorescent yellow toenail polish.  Bring on the sun!

#18 Colors & Craziness

I'm in the midst of a room redo... crap everywhere... computer hiding under piles of books... Harry Potter movie marathon in reverse... paint fumes making me loopy... Monday morning meetings...

...but first breakfast for dinner at Wafels & Dinges.  Who's with me?
